Releng for v1.1.0

I thought I would get a lot further with refactoring, and that this would reasonably be a v2.0.0 release that, e.g., supported >1 user per system. I wasn't able to get that far due to -ENOTIME, and because of this I think it makes sense to avoid other minor breaking changes (like removing a variable that might as well have been kept for now). So, I reverted a few "breaking changes" to ensure continuity; and unless I'm missing something this release should be backwards compatible now.
